Adult Special Needs
Our adult special needs group is ran for our young adults who have moved on from our senior special needs group and other young adults who have mild to moderate disabilities and/or additional needs. Available for our young adults aged 18 to 25, it aims to help our young adults develop independent living skills as they move into adulthood. This group also works to help develop and build upon their personal and social development.
On a week to week basis our young adults take part in a variety of group activities. They include:
Healthy Eating Workshops
Physical fitness
Team Games
Relationship workshops
Music
Cooking
Quizzes
Pool
The group also develop and build skills through going on trips and residentials throughout the year. These are very popular with our group members as they get to try new things outside their comfort zones and spend time with their friends in a different environment. Some of the most recent trips and residentials include:
Ford Castle – Team Building & Outdoor activities
Nine Banks- To help develop independent living skills
Tall Ships- Learning about Culture, the historical race and sailing down the country
BBC Newcastle- To learn about how television is made and for their arts award
Our members are also very community orientated and run regular fundraising projects. Our group also boasts the accolade of Gold Duke of Edinburgh holders and are very supportive of one another. They build on positive relationships and have a natural report with one another and are very welcoming to new members entering the group.
